Reproductive surgeries are typically completed to restore normal fertility or to improve the chances of success in women undergoing advanced fertility care such as artificial insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

Operative Hysteroscopy:

Hysteroscopy is a surgery that allows your Fertility Specialist to examine and operate on your uterine cavity using a thin viewing tool called a hysteroscope inserted vaginally. The purpose of the surgery is to restore a normal uterine anatomy for improved fertility. Examples of women needing a hysteroscopy include women with uterine polyps or fibroids that distorts the shape of the uterine cavity. A fertility specialist may also recommend a hysteroscopy for women with uterine scarring or uterine septum to insure a lower chance of miscarriage and a healthier pregnancy. This is a same day surgery with fast recovery. The Fertility Specialists at IVF Michigan Fertility Center have years of experience in performing operative hysteroscopy.

Operative Laparoscopy:

A laparoscopy is a surgery of the abdominal cavity completed using a telescope (laparoscopy) inserted through the navel. Laparoscopies are typically recommended to fix tubal adhesions (scarring) around the fallopian tubes in order to restore fertility. Operative laparoscopies may also be performed in cases of advanced endometriosis or to remove or interrupt a fallopian tube filled with fluid (hydrosalpinx). Laparoscopic surgeries are same day surgeries with recovery time ranging from a few days to one week, depending on the extent of the operation performed by our Fertility Specialists at IVF Michigan Fertility Center.

Tubal Re-anastomosis, or Tubal Ligation Reversal: Women who underwent tubal ligation can restore their fertility through a tubal re-anastomosis surgery or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Tubal re-anastomosis surgery is an option for women who had their tubes clipped, cut or burned. It is less successful after a procedure that blocks the tubes such as Essure. Tubal re-anastomosis is a same day procedure that should be completed by an experienced fertility specialist for optimal success. Candidates for tubal re-anastomosis surgery are young women who have no other infertility factors. Women 35 or older or women with other infertility factors, including male infertility, are better served with In Vitro fertilization (IVF). Your Infertility Specialist at IVF Michigan Fertility Center will give you a recommendation based on your particular case.
