I have never felt more cared for, respected, loved, and more hopeful by any doctor than when we did working with Dr. Shamma and his team. He made our dreams come true and thanks to him I get to be called Mommy by our sweet baby boy Edison Jude, who will be 2 Saturday, August 1st. I have recommended him to so many others who are struggling with infertility, and just like the miracle worker he is, he blessed others with their miracle babies. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our dreams come true!

After countless years of struggling with infertility (and two fertility doctors later) I heard about IVF Michigan/Toledo Fertility Center. Dr. Shamma and his staff are professional, caring, and friendly. He is a miracle worker and has helped bless me with two little girls.

Our son is almost 11 years old and I am in awe still over the wonderful people at IVF Michigan. When we first met with Dr. Fakih after four years of getting no where, he told me that he would help us. True to his word after one IVF treatment, I received the phone call I had always hoped for. The nurse told me I was pregnant. That has been the best phone call of my life to this day. Every once in a while I am reminded of how miraculous science and faith can be when done together when I see my son smile or learn something new. I have you all to thank for this. God bless you!

Going through infertility treatment is difficult on so many levels. It is emotionally taxing, it is physically draining. And on top of that there is a constant feeling of fear-- what if it doesn't work? Will I ever get pregnant? It is, therefore, extremely important to have the right physician. One who is both compassionate and knowledgable. A physician who is always on top of the latest research, the latest techniques and who isn't afraid to change therapeutic courses if the one currently in play isn't working. Dr Shamma fits all of these criteria and goes so far beyond being your doctor. He was a counselor, a guide and a cheerleader for me every step of the way.
After being told by another physician at age 32 that I had decreased ovarian reserve and was unlikely to ever have my own biological child, I felt so hopeless. I was only 32 and I was not willing to give up trying to conceive with my own eggs after just starting the IVF process. On the recommendation of a friend I made an appointment with Dr Shamma. He was so unbothered by my diagnosis and reassured me that though I may not make as many eggs as other women, all we needed was one good one! We got that one good egg a couple of months later and that is my beautiful, now 3 years old, son. I am currently pregnant again with the help of Dr Shamma and so elated to be able to give my son a sibling.
I am a physician myself. As both a physician and a patient I can not say enough about Dr Shamma and I recommend him highly and confidently to everyone that asks me about fertility issues.

You are absolutely amazing! Ryan and I were so lucky to have someone like you assist and guide us on this very emotional journey. We so appreciate your support each and every step of the way. You've made this much easier to get through and we thank you for that. You are a blessing to IVF Michigan but more importantly to this world! Thank you for everything!

We can't thank you enough for everything you've done for us, both in our successful pregnancy in 2010 that brought our 3-year old daughter Hadley into our lives, and for standing by us in our journey over the last 14 months to give her a sibling. I think you are an excellent doctor and I absolutely trust your judgment. I would highly recommend this practice (both you and Dr. Shamma) to anyone (I believe Dr. Ayers is focusing more on research, etc.). I know you are highly respected in your field, with world-wide acumen, and I feel lucky to have you as my doctor. I know that I am receiving the utmost level of care. I really appreciate that you are your staff respected our wishes and worked with us and allowed us to make our own choices. Throughout our 9 attempted IVF cycles of IVF since last January, I always felt that we were in control. Your recommendations were shared with us in a straight-forward manner and we never once felt pressured or rushed to make a decision or forced to look at donors before we were ready. I truly appreciate that we were able to continue back-to-back cycles using our own eggs and sperm regardless of our ages, then were able to try using my sister as a donor even through her age was a factor as well. It means so much to me that not only were we able to get pregnant, but that we were able to achieve it in a way that was right for us (and ultimately didn't need to use an egg donor). We are so excited and thrilled with the result. We are looking forward to welcoming this newest member of our family sometime in October.
I am so thankful for the level of care we've received throughout this entire process. Every one of the nurses - Susan, Michelle, Patty and Deanna, have been phenomenal to work with. It's so nice to be able to call and talk to a nurse at anytime. They've had infinite patience and always answered every one of my questions willingly and in depth. They are friendly, easy to talk to and very caring. And the one time I did need to use the emergency nurse line during a weekend, it was so reassuring to get answers to a scary situation (bleeding at 9 weeks pregnancy) quickly. Even though you aren't always physically here, I've always felt confident that you are actively overseeing my treatment and making the necessary decisions on a daily basis. Although I preferred when you were able to do my procedures, I was completely comfortable with Dr. Shamma's and Dr. Ayer's abilities. The patient lab techs (Kami and Trupti) and the front desk staff (Jill and Renee) are always friendly, efficient and helpful. And the entire OR staff, including Rochester Anesthesia, have also been great to work with. Everyone is always friendly, compassionate, informative, caring and positive.
I love that your process from follicle stimulation through to pregnancy monitoring is thorough. I've felt completely taken care of through each step. I appreciate the regular monitoring, multiple Betas and weekly ultrasounds to ensure a healthy pregnancy. It provides such peace of mind knowing exactly what's happening and not having to go long periods of time worrying because we didn't have current information. Also, I love that you are offering the new Counsyl and Verifi testing options. WE have opted to use both tests. Again, it is reassuring to have the choice to know all available information and have the ability to act proactively based on the results. Assuming there are not chromosomal abnormalities with this pregnancy, we are very excited to find out the baby's gender so much earlier than with the standard ultrasound at almost 19 weeks.
Lastly, since virtually the entire financial commitment for IVF isn't covered by insurance and is paid out of pocket, we appreciate that your charges and discounts for repeated procedures were fair and equitable.
Overall we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you again. We are so grateful and will never be able to thank you and your staff enough for helping us achieve the family we've desired. After welcoming this baby in October, our family will be complete!
With our gratitude,
Kim, Barry and Hadley (April 2014)
